THE GREAT WALL - AN EXPEDITION FROM THE YELLOW SEA TO THE GOBI DESERT

DIE GROSSE MAUER - EINE ENTDECKUNGSREISE VOM GELBEN MEER ZUR WÜSTE GOBI

4 - teilige Dokumentation

THE GREAT WALL represents a jewel of China, an architectural masterpiece, nominated "Cultural Heritage of the World" by the United Nations in 1987. No other manmade construction can compare with the Great Wall, its imposing magnitude, sophisticated plan and realisation, its touching symbolism, deeply rooted in Chinese history.

More than 20 feudal states and dynasties participated in the construction, extension and restoration of the Great Wall for over 2.000 years, beginning in the 7th century BC. For centuries different cultures flourished in the regions near the Great Wall; Still the home of many nationalities living in their ancient traditions.

12 teams travelled the remote areas by helicopter, jeep and camel for more than two years. What they filmed is not only an exciting view
on the "Dragon Of 10.000 Li", but also a series on a country full of secrets and legends.

The voyage of discovery follows the Great Wall from the East to West. It is also a voyage into history and into the ancient Chinese culture. Many nationalities are met along the route, Manchu, Mongols, Uigurs, Daurs and more, whose traditions are still alive, whose lives, far from the big cities in remote areas, hardly have changed since centuries.
